Flamingo - feathers are cut from Royal Palm frond “fleather”, short for frond leather, which Peggy calls the thinning edges of these huge fronds. The head and neck are formed from palm sawdust which Peggy collects from cutting and sanding the pieces. She combines the sawdust with glue and a bit of water to make what she calls “Palm Mache”, then shapes it around recycled (clean!) foil. It is painte

Unicorn - made from parts of Royal Palm fronds. Acrylics with sealer. Peggy used several new techniques to create this piece. She cut and shaped thin parts of the palm (Peggy calls the thin area “Fleather”, for frond leather), then she curled them with a curling iron to achieve the rippled mane.
